Senior Progress / Linux developer

Progress upgrade

 

Duration – 3 - 6 months  - extension possible 

start date – ASAP

Location – Cleveland, OH

 

The Point of Sale systems use a replicated site deployment model. The applications use the Progress OpenEdge relational database management system (RDBMS), are written primarily using the Progress OpenEdge Advanced Business Language, run in a Linux environment, and consist of:

• Point of Sale – recording of accounting transactions such as sales and returns to customers • Store inventory management – Merchandise inventory control application that automates the ordering, receiving, and counting of merchandise for inventory • Customer Order Entry – Customer order management software • Store operational data maintenance applications • Delivery Scheduling – interfacing with third party routing and scheduling applications.

Need to add a Progress/Linux developer to help with a Progress version upgrade from v10 to v11.  For the upgrade project they have 4,000 Progress ABL (advanced business language) modules that need to be checked for compliance with the latest version of Progress.  Someone with strong upgrade project experience and troubleshooting skills is what is needed for this position.

 

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Experience • 5+ years IT experience.

• Proficient with Progress 4GL and OpenEdge Advanced Business Language • 3+ year RDBMS experience such as MS SQL Server, IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL. Linux OS, shell scripting. Strong technical and troubleshooting skills are required.

Preferred Experience, but not required

 Experience with OpenEdge Prodatasets, MQ Series, Progress 4GL XML tools is a plus • Some experience leading projects • Experience with C, SQL, Java, JBoss, HTML, XML, JavaScript, Struts and any Web Technologies
